Let's talk about mud. In it's own way, mud is almost as dangerous to hike on as ice if you aren't careful. Some mud will suck your shoes off if you aren't careful. You shouldn't have to worry, assuming your shoes are tightly laced and well tied. However, this kind of mud can still be annoying. Having grown up in downstate Illinois and walked through my share of muddy fields, I'm very familiar with this mud. It's bad, but not the worst type.

No, the worst type of mud is the slick kind. This also is common in East Central Illinois, particularly in woods and on downhill slopes. This kind of mud waits for you to step on it before it moves, often taking you somewhere different than you had hoped if you aren't careful. With good shoes and good reflexes you can keep from spilling over. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a muddy backside at best, and a ruined hike at worst.

What does this have to do with today's journal entry? Not that much, although I did walk carefully through a bit of mud out at Forest Glen today. However, that's for tomorrow's entry. Since I didn't exercise yesterday, and I don't have any weight results to discuss, I just felt like filibustering this entry.
